Deane Brown recaptures form for Team Appleyard/Macadam
25 August 2008
Team Appleyard/Macadam's fifteen year old rider Deane Brown put in an excellent performance this weekend to finish seventh at the Cadwell Park round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
Still building his confidence and speed following his bad leg injury earlier in the season, Deane arrived at Cadwell Park following a morale boosting 4th place in one of the two Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup races a week earlier at the Brno circuit in Czechoslovakia. After a steady start in practice, Deane posted second quickest time in wet qualifying and eventually started the Relentless British 125GP Championship race from 10th place on the grid. From the start, he quickly moved up to 4th place and then got involved in an exciting dice with four other riders which entertained the spectators until the chequered flag. Although disappointed not to finish higher, the race provided Deane with some much needed race experience as he further sharpens his skills for the remaining rounds of the Championship.
Team-mate and fellow 125 rider Jordan Thompson had yet another good weekend practicing well and qualifying in 13th position despite his machine suffering a cracked cylinder in the last session preventing him from improving his grid position. In the race Jordan rode competently bringing the bike home in a points scoring 14th place. After the race he had a big smile on his face; "I love riding at Cadwell and enjoyed the race. I would of course like to have finished higher but the bike felt a little ‘flat' throughout and after the problems we had in qualifying it was good to get yet more Championship points."
Oldham rider Ashley Beech was unable to compete in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship race following a crash early in the first practice session that ruled him out of further action due to injury. Ashley however expects to be fully fit for the next event at Croft in two weeks time.
Summing up the weekend, Team Manager Robin Appleyard said; "Ashley's injury aside, we certainly had a better weekend than many this season. Deane seems to have turned a corner with his performance and showed a return to the form we know he's capable of. Jordan again suffered some bad luck but rode well and continues to impress. With all three team riders back in action at Croft, we'll be looking for more success there as the season moves into the closing stages." |
